Due to extreme pressure and temperature conditions, traditional materials would not provide the required reliability requirements for continued acceptance of penetrators for use in subsea systems to power subsea boosting or submersible pumps therefore a new solution was required. The Teledyne team developed a very innovative ceramic penetrator that has since become the baseline technology for all future high pressure and high temperature solutions.
