Marine Measurement ADCPs

These systems excel in ocean and coastal environments, where understanding water movement is crucial for both scientific research and commercial operations. Marine Measurement ADCPs provide detailed insights into ocean currents, waves, and water column dynamics. They can be deployed in various configurations, from vessel-mounted systems for mobile surveys to bottom-mounted units for long-term observation.

Water Resources ADCPs

Specifically engineered for inland water applications, these systems tackle the unique challenges of measuring flow in rivers, streams, and reservoirs. They deliver precise discharge measurements crucial for water management, environmental monitoring, and flood prediction. The technology adapts to changing conditions, providing reliable data even in challenging environments like flood events or low-flow situations.

Tethered Hydrologic Boats

This innovative platform combines our proven ADCP technology with remote-controlled watercraft, enabling safe and efficient measurements in challenging locations. These systems allow operators to collect high-quality data while maintaining a safe distance from dangerous or difficult-to-access waterways.

What is an ADCP?

An Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) represents a remarkable advancement in underwater measurement technology. These sophisticated instruments use sound waves to measure water current velocities across multiple depths simultaneously. Think of it as creating a vertical slice through the water, showing how currents move at different depths. The technology relies on the Doppler effect - the same principle that makes a passing siren change pitch - to measure water movement by analyzing sound waves bouncing off particles naturally present in the water.

The Evolution of ADCP Technology

For four decades, Teledyne RD Instruments has pioneered and refined ADCP technology, establishing it as the industry standard for current profiling. Our continuous innovation has transformed these instruments from specialized scientific tools into versatile solutions used across marine industries, research institutions, and water management organizations worldwide.
