Osprey AUV

The Osprey AUV is built upon the proven Gavia modular design. The Osprey AUV has a 324mm/12 3/4" diameter to accommodate additional energy and sensor options to meet demanding applications with a 2000m depth rating. The Osprey utilizes a fully modular design based on the Teldyne QuickLock mechanism and Teledyne Vehicle Bus.

Features include an efficient rim drive thruster, removable data pod, increased capacity battery modules, enhanced obstacle avoidance capability and more capable and customizable sensors, autonomy and payloads to meet a variety of mission requirements from defense, commercial and scientific users.

Modularity

The Osprey AUV is comprised of five basic module types (Propulsion Module; Control Module; Battery Modules; Payload Module; and Nose Module) and an optional Attitude, Depth, and Heading (ADH) Module. Each module is portable, and once connected, is discoverable (including sensors), and extendable.

Navigation

The Osprey AUV combines a high-accuracy survey-grade INS with Teledyne RD Instruments DVL aiding for navigation. Multiple DVL options are available providing bottom lock up to 850 meters. Further positioning accuracy can be maintained over longer duration deployments by utilizing Ultra Short Baseline (USBL) or ranging to bottom-moored Long Baseline (LBL) transponders (optional)

Autonomy

Whether MOOS-IvP or ROS, we have you covered! Mission planning tools allow the Osprey AUV to hand over control to customize the job-to-be-done.

Customizable Payload

The vehicle can be customized to include multiple optional sensors including,

  • Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS)
  • Multi-Beam Echo Sounder (MBES)
  • Side scan sonar (SSS)
  • Sub bottom profiler (SBP)
  • High resolution camera, laser scanning, and strobes

Emergency Systems

Redundant emergency systems provide extra recovery options both below the water and on the surface including a drop weight, acoustic pinger, and Iridium beacon.

Software

Software is based on the proven software used for over a decade with the standard Gavia AUV with Control Center and Crew Members.
