Teledyne Geophysical Instruments, a division of Teledyne Marine, is pleased to announce a step forward in marine seismic technology as Sanco Group AS become the first operator in the industry to deploy Bolt 1900 Airguns incorporating Teledyne’s newly engineered cast components.

A leader in seismic vessel operations for the offshore energy sector, Sanco Group AS is positioning itself at the forefront of geophysical innovation with this first-of-its-kind adoption.

Bolt Airguns are widely used in marine seismic exploration as a reliable source for subsurface imaging and have been a benchmark in the industry since the 1970s. Teledyne Marine’s introduction of cast components represents a significant evolution of the design.

As part of Teledyne’s Continuous Improvement Process, major components previously manufactured from machined stainless steel are being re-engineered using advanced casting processes and more robust materials to improve durability and reduce weight. For top housings, enhancements include: new heavy duty spreader bar ears instead of welded tow ears, recessed solenoid valve for added protection and safety, increased safety margins, and 25% weight reduction. The cast components are drop-in replacement for existing 1900LL-XT components.

By introducing precision-cast components, Teledyne is setting a new benchmark in reliability for seismic survey equipment, delivering more consistent performance under demanding offshore conditions, while still maintaining the rugged and robust design that Bolt Airgun operators have trusted for decades.

“These new cast components offer an advancement in the long-term reliability and performance of our Bolt airguns,” said Holli Sims, VP/GM, Teledyne Geophysical Instruments. “Sanco Group has been instrumental throughout the testing process and validating the technology. Their decision to be the first to adopt this technology underscores both their leadership in the seismic industry and the confidence they’ve placed in our engineering.”

Martin Boe of Sanco Group AS, said: “We are very pleased to be able to be a part of testing out the casted version of the Bolt 1900 Airgun, and to have an input on the finished product. We are confident this is the right way forward, reducing the amount of materials used in production and reducing weight on the Airgun itself.”
